Winter MCM Finds

The winter months are the hardest months to find great MCM items but with a little effort and willingness to go new places it can be done. This past week I seem to be focusing on metal objects like the Bodum tea kettle by Carsten Jorgensen. I never really notice what I'm doing until I get home and put it all out on a table. So yeah for brass, stainless steel and copper!!! It all works! :)

I brought home an "American Home" magazine to read from September 1966. The issue is devoted to predicting what our future will be after the year 2000. Here's one of their many predictions. "By the turn of the next century only 10 percent of us will be engaged with 'work'. The computer and automation will relieve us of the drudgery and allow 90 percent to spend time on whatever pleases them. The machines will do the work, create the wealth which will allow every family to follow the leisure path." 

Here is a quote I thought some of you might enjoy. "Furniture as an art form. Only a favored few used to be able to indulge a taste for furnishings that were more than merely functional. Because the future holds more for us in terms of education, income, and leisure our taste levels are bound to rise and we shall find furniture and other furnishings that are also an art form. This handcrafted metal cabinet is an example." The cabinet pictured is by Paul Evans. What they didn't know was that we'd find the furniture that was created during that time period to be a valued art form today.

On education, "Ph.Ds will run in families; everybody will be taking courses on the computer". " "The entire emphasis on learning has changed. Kuba Komet Television

I happened to run across this very cool Kuba Komet Television on liveauctioneers.com thought I'd pass it on.  How cool is this? This model was made in Germany in 1960.

Vladimir Kagan Era Style Lamp

Like I always say "no good lamp left behind" and that's why I had to bring this one home. I just wish I knew who the designer or maker was. It has that look from the Kagan era but I haven't seen another like it. It's in very good condition and once it's properly cleaned up and photographed I will list it for sale.

It's the time of year I begin to think about setting the perfect table for Christmas on a budget! You can create a set of paper Christmas trees just like the ones shown above in 8 easy steps. Just follow my directions below and you'll end up with a fab table for a fab time of the year!!

I enjoy scouring flea markets, garage sales, and thrift shops to find just the right set of dinnerware for the season.  Starring on our table this year is a set of J&G Meakin dinnerware in the Renaissance pattern. J&G Meakin was one of the companies from the Staffordshire collective of shops in England. This village in England was comprised primarily of potters who produced dishes for well over 200 years. J&G Meakin was founded in 1851 by James Meakin and his two sons, James and George. I was able to pair this great dinnerware set with gold tone flatware from Korea and a set of stunning set of star cut crystal glassware. The little paper Christmas pine trees finished the table off for a festive look.
