Glama Glass Serving Dishes

A few years ago I spotted a couple of Glama glass pieces but didn't have enough money with me to get them. I've kept an eye out for these pieces since. I was able to acquire 2 of these very cool pieces recently. Glama bent glass serving pieces were made in the 50s and early 60s. The glass is fired to 1000 degrees and the raised pattern is 22 karot gold and ceramics. Glama glass has the fun ability to change color depending on the surface it is sitting on. the edges have a very light violet tint to them which shows up easily on a white surface. When the same piece is set on black it suddenly becomes a iridescent gold.

I am very new to the world of glass and glassware but have always appreciated glass pieces I see at sales but rarely purchased. As I become more comfortable with glass I have become more comfortable with taking a risk. Italian Murano art glass pieces have always fascinated me as an artist and I am especially drawn to the Mid-century Modern pieces from the 50s and early 60s. After World War II the Murano artists focused simple minimalist, functional design. Prominant artists of the time were Seguso, Santilona, Scarpa, Barovier, Bianconi, Zuccheri, Chrivi, Martinuzzi, and Barbini.
