Kaj Franck Little Red Bird Cups and Friends

These cups was a very fun find and not at all expected, but isn't that what it's all about? Not one or two but three Finel Arabia cups designed by Kaj Franck and made in Finland between 1971-75. Franck was one of the leading Mid-century Modern tableware designers whose influence spanned from 1940-1980. These little red bird cups are not easy to come by. This is a great Regent Sheffield Cutlery set made in the USA probably in the late 50's. It was still in the original box and in great condition! Available for sale HERE!

Last but not least is a set of 6 root beer swirl or tortoise shell Bakelite napkin rings. I have a thing for the finishing touches when setting the table and napkin rings can really do the job. Danish Style Flatware for Every Day

 

Winter finds are by far the best finds because they're harder to come by.  This is a wonderful Danish Modern styled flatware set marked "Stainless Japan". The handles seem to be a wood composite in the color of teak. In my opinion this would make a great every day set. The maker and pattern are unknown but there is another partial set available on Etsy along with this one. It would be easy to combine the two for one large set. Dinner Party In A Box Knowles and Libbey Head the Table

Knowles Festival Dinnerware

Sometimes when I'm out and about I find this that and the other in dinnerware and glassware. It's not hard for me to imagine how one of those things would look with another of those things but know for some that can be a challenge. Then it hit me! Why not do a little mixing and matching to come up with an extra special dining experience. What about putting it all together to create a "Dinner Party in a Box". For the first Dinner Party in a Box I combined 4 wonderful Knowles Festival dinner plates and bowls with 4 Libbey wine glasses in tawny brown. I added a gorgeous pair of Danish Modern sculptures for the center piece along with a candle holder and it became a "Dinner Party in a Box".

Paul McCobb Planner Group Desk is Done!

This is a great example of what $20.00 can buy, add about $40.00 in sand paper, stripper and stain and a desk is given a new life. I plan on using this desk for my art work. I'm thinking this desk spent the last few years in a young child's bedroom. The surface looked as though a motor cross had been occurring there on a regular basis. I am guessing a toy car had many adventures there. I had a very difficult time with the surface marks and the walnut stain. The combination meant many hours of sanding and it still has a slight five o'clock shadow. None the less it has a new life and so begins a new story for this Planner Group Desk designed by Paul McCobb.

Finn Juhl or S. J. Wiener Clam Shell Chair in Aqua

This is a chair attributed to Finn Juhl, (1912-1989), a Danish architect, interior and industrial designer. Juhl was the designer who introduced "Danish Modern" to the American public. This chair was manufactured by Kodawood in Miami, FL. It seems that there is some question as to whether Juhl designed the chair or an American designer S. J. Wiener. I think the patent may explain it all so I have included it in this post. :) American designers deserve more credit then they often get. I love the chair and am looking forward to getting it cleaned up and redone. It will take a little time to find someone who can re upholster this piece but I think it was a worthwhile save. It just goes to show that you never know what you'll find at a garage sale.
